Many of the participating fire departments are offering “Firefighter Try-Outs” — a unique program that allows the average citizen the opportunity to test-drive the skills you’ll need to learn as a volunteer firefighter. Skills such as “Crush steel with the Jaws of Life”, “Gear Up to be a Firefighter”, “Test Drive the Latest Firefighting Technologies” and “Extinguish a Real Fire.” Several VFDs are offering free food and/or refreshments; and fun activities for kids of all ages.

Look for our billboards and print ads around Erie County leading up to the big events scheduled for April 27 and/or April 28, 2013.

While not all fire departments will be participating in this Open House program, that doesn’t mean they don’t want more volunteers. We encourage you to contact the local volunteer fire department in your neighborhood to see how you can help.
